4-DAY FESTIVAL BEGINS
Presented by the Brooklyn Playwrights Collective
The Brooklyn Playwrights Collective, who in previous years have brought you festivals of new plays inspired by Artaud and Brecht, is continuing this year with Confronting Chekov, the Collective's 4th Annual New Play Festival at the Brecht Forum from Thursday, December 11 throught Sunday, December 14.
Plays will include:
Through the Red, loosely based on Chekhov’s story, Lady with a Lapdog, by Maria Micheles
Dr. Chekhov, Gunshot Expert, the inspiration for Chekhov’s master works include sex, booze, and apathy, by Alaina Hammond
In the Ravine, two pilgrims at a mountaintop meet two departing dressmakers of the flagellant sect, who come from the ravine below, based on Chekhov’s longest short story, by Peter Dizozza
Sexy Monk, by Ed Malin
Chop Happy, a cherry orchard’s lost, hope in a fabulous new future is gained, by Marcy Wallabout
Gone With the Masha, a real estate developer invests in the fading aristocracy of Atlanta, by Jerry Polner.
Dr. Chekhov at the Bedside, the real Chekhov attempts to change the outcome of the Cherry Orchard, by Jane Prendergast
Philodendron, a philodendron, not a cherry orchard symbolizes the disintegration of a modern family, by Al Lefkowitz
The Brooklyn Playwrights' Collective is a project of local playwrights collaborating through workshops, proposals, and readings to aid each other in the playwrighting process from writing, to editing and production.
