Featuring the world premiere of a Brecht Forum commission by Rashied Ali, performed by his quintet.

Rashied Ali became a mainstay of the avant-garde jazz world in the 60s. In 1965, John Coltrane decided to use a two-drummer format - choosing Ali to complement the legendary Elvin Jones. Thus began a musical odyssey whose reverberations are still felt in the music today: Coltrane probing the outer harmonic limits and changing the melodic language of jazz, while Ali turned the drum kit into a multi-rhythmic, polytonal propellant and helped fuel Coltrane's free flights. In response to the decaying NYC environment of the '7Os, Ali started his legendary loft space, Ali's Alley, and his own record company, Survival Records. Recently, he has been busy composing music, recording and performing internationally.
